The swimmers had some brilliant personal best times, and I would like to thank all the team for a good
weekend with a great atmosphere. I was kept extremely busy especially when there were 5 Street swimmers
in one heat! I would like to thank Jess Hartley and Jane Bowes who helped me record times and
chaperone the swimmers when I was on poolside. Well done to all the swimmers, keep up the good work!”

The club held their first friendly gala on Saturday 24th March. Swimmers from
Pre-Squad, junior squads and our top competitive squads joined together to compete in teams.
The fun started at 5pm, team captains were Louis Marchione, Dominic Inder-Goode, Megan Chiffers,
Georgia Bowes, Ciara Bowes and Oliver Willies. Each produced a fantastic display choosing team
names and making posters. The captains showed leadership and enthusiasm, supporting their younger
swimmers. There was a great team spirit from all the children.
The atmosphere was electric and the end results where extremely tight with the teams just a few
points apart. The final raft relay race was noisy and boisterous, but the children had great fun
with younger ones riding while older swimmers pushed. After the final points had been totalled
Ciara’s Clownfish where awarded the winning trophy.
Rocky Stone Head Development coach quoted “Fun was had by all and all the children met their own
personal achievements – well done to everyone!”
It has been agreed that all entry fees totalling £100 will be donated to Sport Relief.
Thanks to Strode swimming pool for the use of their facilities. Thanks to the coaches for all their hard
work to the parent helpers and the committee.
It was a fantastic County championship for swimmers of Street as individuals and for the club. It all
started back on Sunday the 12th of February with the long distance 800 freestyle and continued throughout
most of the following weekends, concluding on Sunday the 11th of March.
Day 1 saw our Street medal account open with great swims from Maddy Hamlett, Liam Williams and Brodie
Williams winning Bronze, Bronze and Gold respectively.
The club went on to finish a very respectable 6th place, with just 26 swimmers competing and
12 swimmers taking part for the first time at County level. Between them they won 30 Gold, 14 Silver
and 10 Bronze medals. Every single swimmer achieved at least one personal best.
In the overall BAGCAT's awards Street had 5 swimmers and can boast 2 county champions in Thomas Sinclair
and Brodie Williams, who both have held this place for 3 years now. Swimmers placed in the BAGCAT top
8 for their age group were: Thomas Sinclair 13yrs), Brodie Williams (12yrs) 1st place; Oliver
Willies (10yrs) 2nd place, Maddy Hamlett (13yrs) 5th place, Alex Rendall (10 yrs) 4th place and
Liam Williams (14yrs) 8th place. Pictured above. More on Counties on the next tab...............
We were also treated with other massive achievements by our swimmers throughout this championship. Brodie
Williams swam strong and aggressively collecting 2 National qualifying times in the 200 back and 400
individual Medley. His time for the 200 back now the fastest 12 year old short course record in the West
of England
since records began. Oliver Willies swam a fantastic 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle to earn him
West of England qualifying times. Thomas Sinclair wowed us with an unbelievable 100 fly, followed up
with a great 100 free, 4 seconds clear of second place and 2 seconds from his National time. Levi Lovell
swam excellently in the 100m races, earning him the title of Somersets Junior Boy's champion in the
100 Fly, Back and Free. The boys relay 9 -12 years (Brodie Williams, Dominic Inder-Goode, Oliver Willies,
Alex Rendall(Free) and Xander Hartly(IM) won 2 bronze medals having never swum as a team before. All
Junior squad swimmers did extremely well with plenty of PB's, Oscar Howe the youngest at just 9 years
old and swimming in his first competitive race.
Coaches Davi Ferreira and Ange Robertson commented “The excellent results show the quality of both the
club and program, there was a fantastic team atmosphere. Our swimmers are some of the very best in
the South West and next year we hope even more will compete. Congratulations to all the swimmers,
their commitment and dedication certainly paid off with fantastic results”.
Time trials took place on Friday for Street and District pre-squad swimmers with our Junior coach Ange
Robertson on pool side assessing all swimmers . Rocky and Steve co-ordinated the event with excellent
assistance from the volunteer coaches and boys captain Liam Williams.
Many thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and dedication.
Lots of parents also helped, taking and logging times and this made for a fantastic club atmosphere,
everyone cheering and encouraging the swimmers. It was wonderful that so many parents eagerly offered
to help and a big thank you to you all. The swimmers certainly enjoyed themselves and are looking
forward to viewing their times on the website.
Rocky will be overseeing the new pre-squad timetable and this will start on Sunday 19 February 2012.
Ange and Davi Ferreira (head coach) will also have regular Sunday coaching sessions with the pre-squad
swimmers. Swimmers will be informed soon which session they will swim on a Sunday either 5.30 - 6.15pm
or 6.15 - 7.00pm.
